Program Overview

The CDMP Canadian Study Group is a cross-Canada, expert-led study program designed to support professionals preparing for the Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) certification.

Earning your CDMP credential is a significant professional milestone. It demonstrates your knowledge, experience, and commitment to best practices in data management.

In today’s job market, CDMP credentials are increasingly recognized across both public and private sector roles as a valuable professional asset.

Program Schedule

All sessions are delivered online via Zoom over a 10-week period.

Start date: Wednesday, April 1, 2026
Time: 4:30–6:00 PM (Pacific Time)
Format: Weekly live sessions

Why Join

This Canada-wide study group brings together experienced professionals and data management leaders from across the country and internationally.

Sessions focus on building a strong understanding of the CDMP knowledge areas, grounded in practical, real-world perspectives.

Pay If You Pass (PIYP) Exam Option

Participants may choose to write the CDMP exam at a Pay If You Pass (PIYP) event taking place in Vancouver in mid-June.

You write the exam and only pay $300 USD if you pass.
If you do not pass, you do not pay.

Additional details will be shared mid-April.

This option helps reduce financial barriers while encouraging confident exam participation.

Exam Overview

The study group prepares participants for the Data Management Fundamentals Exam, the entry point for CDMP certification at the Associate, Practitioner, or Master level.

Getting Started With AI Governance: The 100 Day Sprint

Please join us on Friday Apr 24th for an amazing AI morning exploring the path to a "minimum viable governance" - an effective starting point for a compliant, long-term AI governance program implementing the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.

We will start off with a virtual presentation by John Rood that will walk us through how to set up a "minimum viable governance" for AI.
In order to get cross-silo conversations started, we are inviting representatives from IIBA (Business Analysis), PMI (Project Management Institute), ISACA (Security), GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance pros), DG-SIG (Data Governance-Special Interest Group), the BC-AI Community. plus as many DAMA and Non-Profit folks as we can seat at the 10x8 person tables.
And food! We are ordering extra muffins, croissants, yoghurts, cookies, and coffee to entice folks to take part in their table discussions. John Rood will take part virtually in the conversations but not the food.
We would really like to pack the room with folks from disparate groups so please pass on this invitation to anybody you think might be interested. We can always pull in extra chairs if we overshoot. :)

John Rood is the Founder of Proceptual, an AI governance consultancy. In this role, he implements AI governance systems for companies of all sizes, government bodies, and nonprofits. He teaches the AI Governance Certification at Michigan State University.
